Lucie Benz was born in Adelaide, Australia. She holds a Bachelor of Music with First Class Honours from the University of Adelaide, and was the recipient of the Doris West Postgraduate Scholarship for the highest achieving female student in 1997. With grants from ArtSA and the South Australian Youth Arts board she spent three months studying at the Malmo Music Academy in Sweden with Professor Anders Ljungar-Chapelon and attended well known flute summer schools in Great Britain. In 1999 she completed her Master of Music in flute performance with teacher Louise Dellit and in 2000, with the aid of a Queen’s Trust award, she began further postgraduate studies at the State Music Conservatorium in Mannheim, Germany, under the tuition of Prof. Jean-Michel Tanguy. She completed a Soloist's Diploma in 2004 with a performance of the Nielson Flute Concerto with the Baden-Baden Philharmonic Orchestra and received outstanding reviews.

She has performed as a soloist with the Kammer Ensemble Cologne on tours in Australia, Germany, Switzerland and France. In Germany she played casually with the Radio Orchestra Kaiserslautern, SAP Kammer-Philharmonie, the Johann Strauss Orchester Kurpfalz, the Symphonic Sound Orchestra ,and the Heidelberg Sinfoniker Orchestra. She has been teaching flute for the past fifteen years including single studies students at the Music Conservatoriums in Adelaide and Mannheim. In 2008 she became an Early Childhood Music teacher and taught Musikgarten in Heidelberg, Germany. She has just recently moved back to Sydney where she teaches at Queenwood Girls College, Wollongong Conservatorium and privately at her home in Paddington. She plays regularly with the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra and the WIN Wollongong Symphony.
